THE BOLTON FACTOR

THE BOLTON FACTOR [Cliff May]
The United Nations Security Council Wednesday condemned Hezbollah for its attack Monday on Israel.

“This condemnation - slamming Hizbullah by name for ‘acts of hatred’ - marked the first time the Security Council has ever reprimanded Hezbullah for cross-border attacks on Israel. The condemnation followed by two days a failed attempt to get a condemnation issued …When asked what changed from Monday to Wednesday, one diplomatic official replied: ‘John Bolton.’ …

“The statement against Hizbullah came just a few weeks after the Security Council condemned Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for his call to wipe Israel off the map. That was also a precedent-setting condemnation, marking the first time the UN body ever condemned an Islamic state for statements against Israel.”

Isn’t astonishing what can be accomplished by an individual who has principles, conviction, guts and determination?

And wouldn’t it be nice if those who opposed Bolton would now acknowledge that they were wrong? But you know how those folks are: They never admit mistakes.

Quoted in full from Cliff May at The Corner.

"All-out war against Islamic militancy."

King Abdullah of Jordan has called for "all-out war against Islamic militancy" and a comprehensive campaign to "not only deal with the security dimension, but also the ideological, cultural and political spheres to confront those who choose the path of destruction and sabotage to reach their goals."

Once again we see those in the world who get it standing in stark contrast to the defeated, defeatist approach of the Democrats.

Asia Allies understand the impact of retreat.

Discussing a possible U.S.-China confrontation, an Asian U.S. Ally noted that "the U.S. military could not counter a wave of millions of Chinese soldiers prepared to die in any onslaught against U.S. forces. After 2,000 casualties, he said, the U.S. military would be forced to withdraw."

Our allies understand the impact of retreat as well as our enemies do. Seems that only the Democrat's fail to understand.

GM today, Social Security tomorrow.

With only 200,000 workers supporting the health care plans of over 300,000 retired employees, the melt down of General Motors should serve as a wake-up call for reform of the Social Security program. The lessons are here if we are wise enough to learn them and bold enough to act.

China: Friend or Foe?

Is the China President Bush is soon to visit a friend or foe of the United States? If the aggressive actions China continues to take against our allies in the region are not enough to illustrate China's true colors, the recent release by the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission warns "that Beijing is using all means at its disposal to replace the United States as the preeminent power in Asia." A continued denial of Taiwan's independence and right of existence, economic and military espionage in the United States and growing military capabilities and aggressiveness are not the makings of a friend. It is time the United States prepares for the cold war with China that is already upon us.

Thanks to The Center for Security Policy for this.

Japan scrambles to repel Chinese threats.

This is no accident on the part of China. By testing Japan's response, China is able to accurately gauge the level of technology available to the United States, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea, all countries who stand in the way of China's plans for regional domination and expansion. Earlier this year China trained openly against Taiwan. Now they exercise against Japan. If China does not challenge South Korea it will likely be due to the large US presence and China may not want to go against us yet. Make no mistake that this is what they are preparing for.

The US Military is there when you need it.

"VICTORIA, Seychelles (NNS) -- The U.S. Navy responded Nov. 7 to a request to dispose of suspected unexploded ordnance left over from a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) that struck the cruise liner Seabourn Spirit during a Nov. 5 attack by pirates near the coast of Somalia."

"Members of U.S. Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 8, Detachment 4, were already in Seychelles to provide support to a previously scheduled port visit by USS Gonzalez. The EOD team met Seabourn Spirit at sea prior to its arrival in port."

It takes most countries 2 days to find out where the Seychelles are, let alone get a properly trained team in place to help. As we saw during the tsunami in the Indian Ocean and the hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico, the US Military is there when you need it.

History repeats: Iranians Outside U.S. Embassy

In my ingnorance (see comments on some of my earlier posts), I assumed that since our Embassy (sovereign Soil) was attacked and the staff held hostage 25 odd years ago by the very Iranians now in power, that we did not maintain an Embassy in Iran. How wrong I was. It seems that this would be a very good time to close this Embassy and bring the staff home while we can. Perhaps those in the business of diplomacy can pretend the current Iranian regime never committed an outrageous act of war against the United States, without retribution, but the American people do remember and will not tolerate it happening again!

Cuba without Castro...think of it!

The "usual suspects" will be appalled, however, freedom loving people will be encouraged to know that there is a US policy in place that seeks “a more proactive, integrated and disciplined approach to undermine the survival strategies of the Castro regime and contribute to conditions that will help the Cuban people hasten the dictatorship's end”. There is hope for the Cuban people and I am glad the United States is prepared to reach out to our once and future friends!

Thanks to Guy Dinmore in Financial Times for this encouragement courtesy of our friends at The Center for Security Policy.

Why not confirm Alito by Thanksgiving?

What happened to having O'Connor's replacement confirmed by Thanksgiving? The time to press is now Mr. President and as Mr. Alito has already been confirmed by the Senate once there is no valid reason to not expedite his confirmation now.

Thanks again Hugh for the post.
